Welcome to the US 21 Corridor Improvements Virtual Public Meeting
The Purpose of the Meeting is to:
- Reintroduce the US 21/SC 802 Mainline Corridor Improvements
- Provide an update on these projects
- Receive comments on the conceptual exhibits
This Public Meeting involves one (1) project as developed in the 2017 Lady’s Island Corridor Study and recently updated in the 2021 Lady’s Island Traffic Study. See Lady’s Island Access Roads Public Meeting for more information.
The US 21/SC 802 Mainline Corridor Improvements in coordination with the proposed Lady’s Island Access Roads yield significant benefits to the island and are shown on the Overview Exhibit.
US 21/SC 802 are the two main corridors on Lady’s Island serving residential and commercial areas. Both corridors and specifically their common intersection are experiencing safety and capacity issues. This meeting is presenting options to address these issues while improving bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
The following are the options:
East Area Concept Plan – Causeway to Chowan Creek Bridge
This area is currently a 3-lane typical section: 1 through lane in each direction with raised planted or paved medians. The proposed plan would widen the roadway to provide a 5-lane typical section: 2 through lanes in each direction with concrete or raised planted medians. This area would also be served by the Airport Frontage Rd shown on the Lady’s Island Access Roads Public Meeting.
The next four concept plans discuss improvements on US 21 Bus/US 21 (Sea Island Parkway) from Wood’s Memorial Bridge to the causeway; SC 802 (Sam’s Point Rd) from Sea Island Parkway to Miller Dr; and on US 21 (Lady’s Island Dr) from Rue Du Bois to Sea Island Parkway:
